Fire Burns At Residential Building in San Francisco Mission District

A fire burned at a residential building in San Francisco’s Mission District Wednesday afternoon before firefighters quickly put it under control. The San Francisco Fire Department said in a Twitter post the one-alarm fire was burning at 3663 17th St. between Church and Dolores streets. The building is a three-story flat with two units.

Memorial Service to Be Held Friday for Santa Barbara County Firefighter-Paramedic Joey De Anda

Funeral plans have been finalized for Friday for Joseph “Joey" De Anda, a Santa Barbara County firefighter-paramedic killed this month in a skiing accident in Fresno County. The 33-year-old employee of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department died Jan. 8 after crashing into a tree while skiing at China Peak Mountain Resort.

Maria Magallon wasn't sure how much she should worry when she got the phone call telling her what happened to her son Monday afternoon. "He came in by helicopter and he was burned pretty badly," she said. "At that time, we didn't know how serious it was." Her 19-year-old son, Eric, was seriously injured while on the job at the construction site for Table Mountain Casino's new hotel and casino.

Sacramento First Responders Blast Long Emergency Room Wait Times At Capitol Hearing

VIDEO: First responders at the California State Capitol on Wednesday blasted hours-long wait times to transfer patients to emergency rooms. Emergency health workers voiced their growing frustration during a hearing, saying the wait times are bad for patients and keep them from other calls. Some agencies reported waiting up to eight hours to transfer patients to emergency rooms.

Firefighter Tony Zee joined the Pasadena Fire Department at a crucial point in his life. He had spent the last four years trying to get a job as a firefighter and was on the verge of giving up, until he received a letter. Zee’s dream of becoming a firefighter began when he was a student at Cal State LA when he learned about a program for fire administration and technology from friends he lived with in the dorms.

Firefighters Knock Down Blaze At Venice Strip Mall

It took 34 firefighters about 20 minutes to knock down a fire at a strip mall in Venice late Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire was reported about 11:29 p.m. at 2814 S Abbot Kinney Boulevard, near Brooks Avenue, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Firefighters confined and fully extinguished the fire at the one-story strip mall, Humphrey said.
